The Atari Consumer Products Division
based in Scottsdale, Arizona, launched a range of calculators
for sale worldwide in 1987. According to ACP President
David Harris, "we have been able to reach a run rate of 1
million (units) per year". The range was licensed to
Hartech for manufacturing (Taiwan) and distribution (worldwide), all
product designs were
done in-house by ACP.
Jack Tramiel had built Commodore on
the back of his large calculator range for many years, and it
isn't surprising that he engaged in this market once again many
years later through his Atari brand.
The Atari range of calculators were
manufactured until 1990, and some units are still available
today from specialised Atari dealers. |
