Hundreds of people worked in research and development at Atari before the huge changes that effected the company in 1984, but during those years, many products were being prototyped as part of a continuing research programme to ensure Atari's technological lead was maintained.   Although Atari Corp had a much smaller R&D team and budget when it took over the company, Atari still worked on new exciting technologies and products, some of which would never see the light of day, no matter how close they may have been to completion.
